On My Wish List is a fun weekly event hosted by Workaday Reads and runs every Saturday. It's where we list all the books we desperately want but haven't actually bought yet. They can be old, new or forthcoming.
Synopsis:
Franny Banks is a struggling actress in New York City, with just six months left of the three year deadline she gave herself to succeed. But so far, all she has to show for her efforts is a single line in an ad for ugly Christmas sweaters and a degrading waitressing job. She lives in Brooklyn with two roommates-Jane, her best friend from college, and Dan, a sci-fi writer, who is very definitely not boyfriend material-and is struggling with her feelings for a suspiciously charming guy in her acting class, all while trying to find a hair-product cocktail that actually works.
Meanwhile, she dreams of doing "important" work, but only ever seems to get auditions for dishwashing liquid and peanut butter commercials. It's hard to tell if she'll run out of time or money first, but either way, failure would mean facing the fact that she has absolutely no skills to make it in the real world. Her father wants her to come home and teach, her agent won't call her back, and her classmate Penelope, who seems supportive, might just turn out to be her toughest competition yet.

I know you are all going to kill me, but would you believe that I have never seen an episode of Gilmore Girls? I know, I know. It's just not really my thing. Perhaps one day I will be inspired to check it out on Netflix though. Even though I have little experience with Lauren Graham, I'm still looking forward to her book. I enjoy stories about people trying to make it out in the real world, probably because I live in a tiny state and nothing big ever goes on around here. Franny sounds like my kind of girl, desperate to get her life going. I have high hopes for this one :)
What about you? What is on your wish list this week? Leave me a link in the comments and I'll come check it out!
I am dying to read this. I may have to splurge and just buy it. Also, sit down and watch every episode of Gilmore Girls, but don't watch the series finale. It ruined everything about that show. Lauren Graham is spot-on and Melissa McCarthy is a million times better than any of the crap she stars in now.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea Melissa McCarthy was on that show, I love her! I might just have to watch it now. I already know how the show ends, thanks to some lovely internet spoilers, unfortunately :(
DeleteIt is on my wishlist too I really want this book the synopsis has caught me so hard that I kind of feel that this is exactly my kind of read that it will be a page turner.
ReplyDeleteAnd you know what I have also never seen any episode of Gilmore Girls... :)
