Love was given to all, except herself . . . Kit Brennan has always been the most grounded of her sisters. A Catholic school English teacher for seventeen years and a constant giver, her decisions have been sound—just not very satisfying. Her fortieth birthday is right around the corner, causing Kit to consider some wilder notions, like skipping right past the love and marriage to raising a child all by herself . . . A girls’ weekend away is just the reprieve Kit needs from school, Mr. Wrongs, and life-changing decisions. It’s there that she meets a man who’s dangerous; a man who challenges who she thought she was, or rathershould be. Kit wants to indulge herself this once, but with one of her students in crisis and the weight of her family’s burdens weighing heavy on her heart, Kit isn’t sure if now is the time to let her own desires take flight . . .
~My Thoughts~
The Good Daughter picks up right where The Good Woman left off, only this time we are hearing from Kit, Meg's sister. Kit is a good girl and about to turn forty. She teaches at a Catholic school and spends the weekends visiting with her sick mother. Just getting out of a long relationship, Kit is starting over and trying to figure out her life. Enter Jude, a dangerous and sexy man who Kit knows is not at all right for her. But that doesn't seem to matter because there is something between them that neither one can shake. Unfortunately, Kit comes from a very religious family with their own views, and Jude just doesn't fit into them. Struggling with her past and trying to decide on her future, Kit must decide if there is a place for Jude in her life and if so, what will she be sacrificing?
Oh where to start... how about I just get right to it and tell you that I absolutely LOVED this book! The second book in The Brennan Sisters trilogy by Jane Porter is just as amazing as the first, even more so. Kit was a very lovable character. She loves her family and her students and takes her job seriously. She is also very funny, but lonely. It is not all all hard to put yourself in her situation and understand all her wants and needs. I found her life and story to be very realistic and also very compelling, you just want to see her happy.
Of course this book wouldn't have been as wonderful if it wasn't for Kit's love interest, Jude. He is smoking hot with unbelievable good looks and a bad boy image to go along with them. He rides a motorcycle has a ton of tattoos and drives Kit absolutely crazy. Even though we are supposed to get the sense that he is dangerous, I just couldn't stop loving him. He may have been working that bad boy image but he wasn't fooling me! The relationship between he and Kit was a rocky one, but those make the best stories.
What I also loved about this story was that it was told in alternate points of view, but not by the characters you would think. Yes we hear from Kit, but we also hear from a student named Delilah who is having one hell of a bad life so far. She lives in an abusive home and is desperate to get her mother in a safe place. When she is placed in Kit's class, she has no way of knowing that they are somehow already connected and that things are going to go downhill quickly. I found Delilah's story heartbreaking and wished nothing more than to jump into these pages and protect her.
Ultimately what I'm saying here is that this book, this series, is utterly fantastic. Jane Porter writes her characters as if she has lived each of their lives and knows exactly how they feel. Kit's story, combined with Delilah's, makes it incredibly hard to put the pages down for even a minute. If you haven't started this series yet, what the heck are you waiting for?
