Reading Road Trip: New Hampshire!

Welcome to my stop on the 2013 Reading Road Trip, New Hampshire! Your tour guides throughout this trip are the amazing Britta at I Like These Books and Hafsah at IceyBooks!

Now when I came across the sign ups for this trip, I just had to get my hands on New Hampshire. Why, you ask? Because this is my home state! I'm a born and raised (and probably will never leave) New Hampshire girl! I admit the state is small, but that doesn't mean we don't have anything to offer. Let's check out some fun facts about New Hampshire, shall we?

• In 1775, New Hampshire became the first state to declare its independence from England.
• Forests cover more than 80% of the New Hampshire landscape.
• The first public library in the United States was founded in 1833 in Peterborough, New Hampshire.
• The first alarm clock was invented by Levi Hutchins of Concord, New Hampshire in 1787. 
• The first potato planted in the United States was at Londonderry Common Fields in 1719.

Now I know you have all heard the rumors about us New Englanders and our weird "language" so let's get familiar with a few of our favorite terms:

• Wicked: very; or occasionally cool. Used indiscriminately , can modify anything (e.g. "Wicked Good" "Wicked Cool", etc.). Almost always used as an adverb, rather than an adjective.
• Awesome: Pronounced  "Ah-sum". Everything enjoyable is "ah-sum", or "wicked ah-sum".
• Massholes: Derogatory term used for residents of Massachusetts, especially Boston drivers. (Seriously, they drive like maniacs!)
• Sick: Another term for ah-sum. As in "Oh man, that was wicked sick!"
• Whip: to throw, "I whipped the ball at his head."
