Ella is looking forward to starting college in the fall with her best friend Josie. She’s looking for a place where she can get away from her overbearing parents and two older annoying brothers. Unfortunately Ella realizes that sometimes the past comes back to haunt you.
Ella soon learns that the man who terrorizes her dreams is in fact real and coming after her.
When one of her classmates is murdered, Ella slowly recognizes this is not some strange coincidence. Ella fears that the boy she’s falling in love with is the one who stalks her dreams and no longer knows who she can trust.
When she finally learns the truth of her families deepest secret, Ella has to face her demons by taking out one of the people she thought she could trust…before they kill her.
My Thoughts:
Ella finally has something to look forward to: college. After her boyfriend dies in a car accident that almost took her life, Ella has been plagued with bad dreams and too many unanswered questions. She can't wait to be on the other side of the country, away from her family and on her own with her best friend Josie. Unfortunately, Ella isn't getting the break she needed. Josie is determined to get Ella to join a sorority with her, which introduces her to Tristan. Handsome, flirty, and the resident advisor for her new dorm, Ella is immediately attracted yet disgusted by him at the same time. He's too forward and he won't take no for an answer. As if this isn't enough for Ella to deal with, there is a shocking murder at her school that pushes things over the edge. Ella is then forced to face some harsh realities about her new friends, her school and her own destiny.
The Wanderers is one of those books that sucks you in at the very beginning and doesn't let you go. Even though it was a little longer than I expected, I blew through it. Ella was going through more than her fair share of problems and I felt sorry for her. Her brothers were overbearing and rude while her parents just seemed to brush it off. She was still dealing with Kyle's death and the mysterious figure she saw that night right before the crash. She has horrible nightmares and doesn't have anyone to confide in that won't send her straight off to a psychiatrist. She's very smart and just wants to enjoy her first year of school while having fun with Josie.
Enter Tristan. Sexy, confident and not afraid to tell it like it is, he immediately grabbed my attention. Even though he was hooking up with different girls left and right, he had an intense attraction to Ella and was determined to win her over. Why is it that guys in books can be such cocky jerks and I love it, yet in real life it is a complete turn off? Whatever it is, it's definitely working here. I didn't particularly agree with a lot of the things Tristan was doing, but somehow I still found myself drooling over him. Hey, what can I say? I love those sexy, snarky leading men!
The Wanderers is the first in a new series and the author does a fantastic job taking the time to set up the story. The relationship between Ella and Tristan doesn't happen immediately, it builds up slowly and this makes it all the better when they do finally get together. But the relationship between these two is just one small part of the story. There's murder, mystery and a whole lot of family secrets. When the secrets do finally start spilling, there's a few twists and turns that I didn't see coming and it only made me want to read faster.
Overall, this was an amazing read. The characters are realistic and well developed and the story is intriguing and fast paced. I can't wait to get my hands on the second book and see where the story goes from here. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves Young Adult, paranormal, or is just looking for a fantastic new read!
