Have I ever told you how much I absolutely LOVE Goodwill? Yes? Oh. Well, I'm gonna tell you again. I FREAKIN' LOVE GOODWILL!!! I'm lucky enough to live in an area that has two Goodwill stores within a twenty minute drive. I like to go to them every other week or so and check out their books. I had recently gone to one and had very little luck (I think I bought all of their decent books) and hadn't had a chance to hit up the other store. I had wanted to go this Saturday, but thanks to some lovely back pain I was immobile for most of the day. On my way home from an appointment this morning, I thought to myself "hmmm, I should go to Goodwill while I have a chance" and decided against it. I was tired and my back was on fire. But for some reason I just couldn't let it go. At the last possible turn, I said screw it and went anyway. I'm telling you, I think there was a reason I just couldn't skip out on it this time. Look what I found:
Do you see what I see? Why yes, that is a BRAND NEW copy of The Death Cure and right under it is also an ALMOST NEW copy of Bloodrose! Bloodrose was just released on January 3rd of this year! Both of these still have the original store price stickers on them. I couldn't believe it. I actually already own The Death Cure so I grabbed this copy for trade. And even though I don't read the Nightshade series, there was no way I was going to let this one out of my hands. Why buy it if I'm not going to read it? To trade, of course! I am a member of Swap.com and I do a ton of trades on there. Right now Bloodrose can get me one of 18,807 items and The Death Cure can get me one of 34,972 items!
Everyday Goodwill chooses a different color price tag and all items with that color are 50% off. So I picked up that awesome stack of books for just $11.44. That's less than the cost of Bloodrose alone! If you have a Goodwill nearby, I definitely recommend checking it out. You never know what awesome goodies you might find!
If you decide to check out your local Goodwill, let me know what you find! Good Luck!
I just went to Goodwill the other day! I got Lament by Maggie Stiefvater, Jane by April Lindner, The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson, Roses and Bones by Francesca Lia Block, and a Lady Gaga book. All of them were ten cents each! I couldn't even believe it. Some of the books I've found scouring Goodwill's shelves is astounding. Brand new books!
ReplyDeleteAnd I thought I was the only one who went to GW for books hahah.
Ten cents!!!! I need to shop at your Goodwill LOL. I've been buying books from there for about two years now and I have definitely saved a ton of money. It's the best ever!
DeleteAs I run a Community Theatre, I am at Goodwill at least once a week looking for props and costumes. Luckily, my work has 4 less than 10 minutes away (and a St. Vincent De Paul, which has even cheaper books). I recently had to find a copy of What to Expect When Your Expecting and it took me three stores to find it, but you can't beat 70 cents.
ReplyDeleteGoodwill is definitely good for more than just books! I actually found a pretty sweet bookcase a few months ago that I love. I always check out the furniture section first now. I also got some really neat looking plates a few weeks ago :)
DeleteWowzers!
ReplyDeleteLike you, we have 2 Goodwills here too...I think I've been to one like once, and it was to check out books...and that was years ago! I'm gonna have to go more often! Perhaps I will go tomorrow after my class :) We also have a bookstore which I couldnt find at first but I went there a few weeks ago and they have tons of books...and they're cheap!
I will definitely make tomorrow a trip to these places in search of books!
As for the swap.com thing...its sounds interesting though I have never heard of it. How does it work exactly??
Definitely check them out, and let me know if you find any goodies :)
DeleteSwap.com is a giant trading site. If you have any books, DVDs, video games or CDs that you no longer want and are still in decent condition, you add them to your "have list" by entering the ISBN or CPU codes. You will also have a "want" list where you can put any item (books,DVDs,CDs,video games) that you want on it. Then the site finds possible trades for you. If you have a book that someone wants and they have a book that you want, you agree to a trade. Then you are both given each other's addresses and send each other the item. It's free to use, you only pay shipping. Most books cost about $3.61 to ship. I have been doing it for about two years now and love it. If you decide to join and need help or have any questions, feel free to ask me :)
Ohhh, I see. That sounds very cool...I'll have to check out that website sometime :)
DeleteOh I really need to go visit a Goodwill! It's been forever but last time I scored some books as well! Love all the books you got! :-)

I hope you find some awesome books!!
DeleteWOW! You got Bloodrose in goodwill?!?! Dang I'm so envious!
ReplyDeleteAnd for only $2.99! Crazy huh?!
DeleteI so wish we had a Goodwill around here. It looks like you got some fantastic books over there and for such a great price, too. As is, I don't think we have any thrift stores in the area (yay, small town Texas).
ReplyDeleteI also wanted to let you know that I tagged you in the book tagging meme. It's my first post! It's a way for book bloggers to connect and get to know one another. I hope you'll participate. You can find my post at:

I hope you're having a wonderful week so far!
Fun! I'm on my way to check it out.

ReplyDeletei don't even have a fully functional library ;(
It'll get there one day, Roro! Hopefully sooner rather than later.
DeleteUm... DROOL. How fun is that?! You make me want to hunt down Goodwills!!! :-) Good thing I'm still feeling buried in my TBR's right now... 'cause who needs another gallon of peanut butter when there's potential books nearby?!?!
ReplyDelete(I'm not sure that makes sense. I need to go buy peanut butter, since we're out of the sustaining staple, but I'd rather spend my money on your haul. Is that clearer? No? I should go back to bed and try waking up again.)
I gotcha! I hate having to buy necessities when I know there are some books out there just waiting for me to buy them. They call to me all day long lol.
DeleteI LOVE thrift store shopping!!! Walking inside a thrift store is like a treasure hunt and I buy all kinds of stuff there. They are especially great for kids' clothes, toys, housewares, pj's(my attire of choice when I'm home), and books.
ReplyDeleteWhen I visit other cities, I like to check out the local thrift stores. All Goodwills are not the same. I was recently in one(Tallahassee) that I didn't care for at all.
Anyway, I just went thrift store shopping this morning and scored:
. THE LINCOLN LAWYER by Michael Connelly
. WHAT THE DEAD KNOW by Laura Lippmann
I stopped at one about an hour or so away and wasn't thrilled with it at all. I was pretty surprised at the difference between that one and the two near me. There are some other thrift stores here besides Goodwill but I have yet to find decent books there. I still try though :)
DeleteYeah, the Tallahassee one had pb's for $2.99 -- outrageous for a thrift store!!! I didn't even bother looking. The store itself was on the smaller side and seemed really old. I did get some comfy cotton pj's so it wasn't a total loss.
DeleteThere are others where I live too and I have my favorites. I'm heading to another one tomorrow, St Vincent de Paul. I was just there on Saturday and lucked out on clothes for my daughter and I. Their book prices are decent too
The store I was at has tag sales -- 2 colors are 50% off and another is 75% off. So I got the books(pb's) for $.50 each).
ReplyDeleteCan't beat that price!
DeleteRight now I'm out of town so I'm visiting the stores in this city. I will make a couple more visits next week before heading back home to familiar thrift store turf.
ReplyDeleteI don't travel much, but you better believe if I find out there's a new thrift store somewhere I am going lol.
DeleteWe travel A LOT and discovering new thrift stores is sight-seeing for me :D. I do have to bribe my 6 1/2 yr old to go with me and she milks it.

ReplyDeleteWe have a St Vincent's where I live too and it's on the same street(within a mile) of my fave store that I visit practically every week. I've been driving by it all this time?! Aaarrgh >:(. Just think of all the good stuff I missed.
ReplyDeleteOh no! I do that a lot unfortunately. I've been driving by places for years and never noticed them. Then when I finally go I'm like "I can't believe what I've been missing!!!"
