~My Thoughts~

The Harvesters is the first in a new short story horror series. Even though it is less than 30 pages, don't let that fool you. This story packs a punch. Right away we are thrown into a very dangerous situation. Ashley and her boyfriend Jason have gone to deliver a package to what is supposed to be friends of Jason's father. Only they aren't friends at all. They are harvesters, and they want Ashley and Jason. The story starts with Ashley finding Jason chained to a table in the basement. They only have a few minutes before one of the harvesters discovers them and tries to stop them from escaping. From there, Ashley and Jason are forced to make impulse decisions that will either save their lives or get them strung up on a hook for the family business.

This was a page turner from the very beginning. Even though the story starts right where the action takes off, we still get a decent background story about the characters. I liked Ashley and Jason quite a bit and felt awful that they had to make such horrible decisions to stay alive. I couldn't help but think of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre while reading this. The woods, the strange house, everything about it screamed scary movie to me, and who doesn't love scary movies?

The story is written well and the pacing is perfect, especially for such a short story. There's a lot of action, but there is also time for the characters to think back about what got them in this situation in the first place.

The only thing I wanted from this story that I didn't get was more. I could definitely see this being a full length novel. There was a nice surprise twist that I didn't see coming and I would love to read more about that aspect. Thankfully though, this is the beginning of the series so I'm crossing my fingers that it will pick up where this left off. I can't wait for the next installment!

I highly recommend this story to everyone and anyone looking for something quick, creepy and fun!
