Where'd All These Books Come From? Read-a-thon Recap

It's now Sunday night and the read-a-thon has come to a close. I wasn't able to read all of the books I had set aside for this event, but I am happy with my results. It was vacation for my minions after all, I'm surprised I got as much done as I did.

I read a total of seven books and 2099 pages. Books read:

And guess what? I loved them all! I'll be working on reviews this week so you can start to expect them soon. Thank you to everyone who participated and to everyone who stopped by to cheer me on during the week. I hope to either host another read-a-thon in a few months or come across one to take part in. I hope everyone had as great a reading week as I did!

Showcase Sunday (1)

Welcome to Showcase Sunday, hosted by Books, Biscuits and Tea. The aim of this event is to showcase our newest books or book related swag and to see what everyone else received for review, borrowed form the libraries, bought in bookshops and downloaded onto eReaders this week. For more information about how this feature works and to join in, click here.

As you can see, I will no longer be participating in In My Mailbox due to the recent controversy. I'm not going to waste your time with it since I'm sure you have read about it all over the place, but I do just want to say that I am very, very disappointed in that particular blogger. Her site was one of my favorites and I'm sad to see what it has come to. Anyway, I've decided to start participating in Books, Biscuits. and Tea's new Sunday meme, Showcase Sunday!

Bought:

As you can see, I had quite the successful shopping week. I picked up three new releases that I've been anxious to read along with some other good looking books from Goodwill. The only problem with having a million books and having two Goodwills nearby is that I sometimes forget what books I already have. Once again I picked up a few duplicates. Bad for me, good for you since a few will probably be making their way into the box of books that I'm sending out to one lucky winner :)

For Review:

I am incredibly excited to have the chance to review this book. It looks like a book I would rush out to buy on release day and when I was asked to participate in a blog tour I jumped at the chance. I can't wait to sit down with it!!

Won:

The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan and Ashes by Ilsa J. Bick - Massive thanks to Nicole at The Book Bandit for these two awesome books that I've been wanting to read for way too long :)

Way To Go by Tom Ryan - Big thanks to Tom Ryan himself for sending me this lovely copy of his new book and also to Tracy Bilen for holding this fantastic giveaway!

The Atria International Book of Mysteries (sampler) - Thank you Atria!

The Good Dream by Donna VanLiere - Thank you St. Martin's Press!

Coming Up For Air by Patti Callahan Henry - Major thanks to Bless Their Hearts Mom, this has been on my wish list for way too long!

The Night Season by Chelsea Cain - Thank you to Tethered Mommy for a possible new author to obsess over!

Dead to You by Lisa McMann, The Story of Us by Deb Caletti and Where It Began by Ann Redisch Stampler - Biggest thanks go out to Shanyn at Chick Loves Lit for another fantastic giveaway. I was expecting three ARCs and instead the publisher sent me three brand spankin' new hardcovers! I did a seriously embarrassing happy dance when this came!

It has been an amazing week for books both read and received. I am incredibly thankful to all the wonderful authors, bloggers and publishers listed above that sent me these amazing goodies. I am also pretty thankful to my husband who works harder than anyone I know and doesn't say a word when I hit up three different bookstores and spend a little too much of his hard earned paycheck :)

What came for you this week? Leave me a link in the comments and I'll be sure to stop by and check it out!

Read-a-thon Day 9 Results and Day 10 Goals

Well it is the last day in the read-a-thon and I'm a little bummed that I didn't make it through all the books I wanted to. But what can I do, the kids were on vacation and there was fun to be had. I didn't get a chance to post my Day 9 Results last night because we didn't get home until about 2am and man was I tired. So to recap:

Yesterday's Goal Was:

Read 100 Pages of:

Hourglass by Myra McEntire

Results:

Fail :( I only managed to read about 80 pages yesterday. Even so, I think that is a pretty decent amount seeing as how we were only home for a few hours, which including breakfast, lunch, showering and running around like a crazy person trying to get some stuff done.

Goal for Day 10, April 29th:

Finish:

Hourglass by Myra McEntire

I'm going for broke and going to try and finish this one last book before the read-a-thon ends tonight. I hope I can pull it off!

Showers of Books Giveaway Hop Winner!

Another giveaway hop has come and gone and it's once again time to announce the winner. Thank you to each and every one of you who stopped by to enter and visit. I wish I could send a book to all of you, but I'm a rather poor girl so unfortunately that is not in the cards. But one lucky entrant has won the book of their choice and that lucky person is:

On My Wish List (30)

On My Wish List is a fun weekly event hosted by Cosy Books and runs every Saturday. It's where we list all the books we desperately want but haven't actually bought yet. They can be old, new or forthcoming.

Title: Torn (Trylle Trilogy #2)
Author: Amanda Hocking
Publication Date: February 28, 2012

From Goodreads:

When Wendy Everly first discovers the truth about herself—that she’s a changeling switched at birth—she knows her life will never be the same. Now she’s about to learn that there’s more to the story…

She shares a closer connection to her Vittra rivals than she ever imagined—and they’ll stop at nothing to lure her to their side. With the threat of war looming, her only hope of saving the Trylle is to master her magical powers—and marry an equally powerful royal. But that means walking away from Finn, her handsome bodyguard who’s strictly off limits…and Loki, a Vittra prince with whom she shares a growing attraction.

Torn between her heart and her people, between love and duty, Wendy must decide her fate. If she makes the wrong choice, she could lose everything, and everybody, she’s ever wanted…in both worlds.

I read the first book in this series, Switched, and was pleasantly surprised. I'm looking forward to reading Torn and the third book, Ascend. I'm also a pretty big fan of these covers :)

What is your heart's desire this week? Leave me a link in the comments and I'll be sure to drop by!

Read-a-thon Day 9: Goals

Goal for Day 9, April 29th:

Read 100 Pages of:

Hourglass by Myra McEntire

Hooray, it's Saturday! The husband doesn't work on weekends (most of the time, thankfully) and since he works so much during the week we try and do as many things as possible on Saturday and Sunday. So I'm setting a small goal today because I know we won't be around much. I'm hoping to play some tennis(weather permitting) and then go over to my brother's house for a game night. There's only one more day left of my read-a-thon and I hate that I didn't get as much reading done as I would have liked. But hey, I gotta entertain the family too I suppose :)

Read-a-thon Day 8: Results

Today's Goal Was:

Finish:

Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake

Results:

Goal Achieved! Not only did I finish Anna Dressed in Blood, but I managed to start Hourglass. I'm only about sixty pages in, but I'm happy to have just started it :)

Read-a-thon Day 8: Goals

Goal for Day 8, April 27th:

Finish:

Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake

I'm keeping it simple today. After my epic fail yesterday, I'm going to keep things easy so when I actually finish this book and start on the next I will feel extra good about it :)

Read-a-thon Day 7: Results

Today's Goal Was:

Finish:

Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake

Start:

Hourglass by Myra McEntire

Results:

Fail :( Not only did I not start on Hourglass, I didn't even come close to finishing Anna Dressed in Blood. Boo! I am actually only about half way through Anna. I know, I know. I have a good reason though! My kids are on vacation this week and the first few days were rainy and crappy. Today was actually a decent day so instead of sitting around the house we did these things instead: planted some flowers, went shopping, went to dinner, went bowling! Then when we finally got home at about 8pm it was time for American Idol. Then I read for a little while until my son wanted some cuddle time and then my husband came home. Here's hoping tomorrow goes a little better :)

Read-a-thon Day 7: Goals

Goal for Day 7, April 26th:

Finish:

Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake

Start:

Hourglass by Myra McEntire

I have a lot to do today, but since I kind of slacked off on my reading yesterday I am setting my goal as a rather high one. I'll do my best!

Read-a-thon Day 6: Results

Today's Goal Was:

Start:

Results:

Well I made it to page 53. So technically I achieved my goal by starting the book, but I'm not nearly as far into it as I would have liked. Today turned out to be quite a busy day. It was my aunt's birthday so we went over to visit for a few hours, plus I had to go to a few stores. We left around noon and didn't get home until about 7:30, had a very late dinner, then it was time for American Idol. Then the husband called and was on his way home from work a little earlier than usual so I only got about an hour's worth of reading in. I'm a little bummed, but I still had a great day with the fam :)

Waiting On Wednesday (30)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Title: Time Between Us
Author: Tamra Ireland Stone
Expected Publication Date: October 9, 2012

From Goodreads:

Anna and Bennett were never supposed to meet: she lives in 1995 Chicago and he lives in 2012 San Francisco. But Bennett’s unique ability to travel through time and space brings him into Anna’s life, and with him, a new world of adventure and possibility.

As their relationship deepens, they face the reality that time might knock Bennett back where he belongs, even as a devastating crisis throws everything they believe into question. Against a ticking clock, Anna and Bennett are forced to ask themselves how far they can push the bounds of fate—and what consequences they can bear in order to stay together.

Usually I stay away from anything time travel related, but this one sounds like something I would enjoy and honestly, I just adore the cover :)

What are you waiting on this week? Leave me a link in the comments and I'll be sure to stop by!
